5 Things to Consider When Buying a Ford Electric Car

Shopping for a Ford electric vehicle is a bit different from a vehicle with an internal combustion engine. We’ll go over what to look for in an EV in detail with several points.

  • Overall Cost of EV Ownership

The price of a new vehicle is often the biggest consideration when shopping for your next car, pickup, or SUV. We understand. Investing in a new car is a big decision, and you want your money to go far while giving you and your family a reliable vehicle in your Pensaukken garage.

Owning a Ford EV gives you the opportunity to reduce your overall costs of ownership. You won’t need oil changes and fluid changes because there are fewer moving parts, so you’ll save on maintenance. However, you’ll need to keep an eye on the tires and brakes because EVs are heavier than internal combustion engine models of a similar size. That’s due to the battery packs.

You may want to install a special home charger to make charging in your Cherry Hill garage much easier. How often will you need public fast charging? That could cost you money when you’re away from home.

However, in general, refueling your EV costs less than gas prices, which aren’t going down any time soon. Even charging at peak times of electrical usage can be less expensive than heading to a gas station. Plus, you can charge from home.

We highly recommend the Ford Connected charge station for your home charging requirements. You’ll need an electrician to install one in your Maple Shade garage or carport. However, this is still cheaper than gasoline when owning your Ford EV for years to come! You could charge your Ford EV overnight, while you’re sleeping, with a home charging box installed. Your actual results will vary.

You can also purchase a portable charging station to take with you on vacation. You can use it wherever you’re staying, either at a campground, hotel, or family member’s house.

  • Electric Vehicle Range

The overall range between charges is also toward the top of your list when shopping for an EV for your family in Maple Shade. You’re fortunate in this regard. Ford EVs get plenty of range, giving you confidence for weekend getaways to your favorite beach, resort, Poconos, Catskills, or outdoor destination. You’ll also do well on summer road trips with your family.

For commercial vehicles, the Ford E-Transit cargo van goes 126 miles on battery-only power. That’s perfect for going from job site to job site in Maple Shade and the surrounding areas.

  • Map Out Public Charging Locations Near Maple Shade

Long drives are not a problem with your Ford EV. Just like any other trip, you’ll need to map out your trip to keep public charging stations within range. You can find plenty of DC Fast Charging stations available to the public through the FordPass app.

Many major metropolitan areas, like Maple Shade, cities, and well-traveled interstate highways have public charging stations at key locations, making long trips possible for every vacation you want to take across NJ or across the country.

Prices will vary at these stations because electricity costs, just like gasoline prices, vary from city to city. Also, take into account how often you’ll use the air conditioner or heater because those run on electricity from the EV battery. Extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures may reduce the range of your Ford EV considerably, so plan ahead for that.

You have one more thing to watch out for, and that’s towing. When you tow something with your pickup truck, that will further reduce the range of your Ford F-150 Lightning because the batteries need more power to haul a heavier overall weight.

  • Tax Incentives for Buying or Leasing EVs

Ford plans on making many more EVs in the coming years, which means prices will continue to go lower as more people invest in EVs. You can get a federal tax incentive of $7,500 when you purchase or lease a new Ford EV from our Maple Shade dealership, but that may change in the future. Our finance center will explain how to get the EV incentive in further detail when you come in for a test drive with our team.

  • Battery Warranty for EVs

The battery warranty is important for Ford EV owners because you want the powerplant to last for many years, much like you would with the powertrain of an internal combustion vehicle. In general, the battery becomes less effective when it can’t keep up to 70% of its charge, which won’t happen for several years or as it nears 100,000 miles. The battery will wear out eventually no matter how efficient it is.

One thing you can do to make your battery last longer is to keep it charged between 20 and 90 percent when driving locally. It will keep the battery pack less susceptible to fast charging times, which causes heat to build up while reducing the effectiveness of the battery over time.

Ford has an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty on the battery, whichever comes first, retaining as much as 70% of its original capacity up until that point. You won’t have to worry about the battery until then! If it requires replacement before this time, the automaker will replace the EV battery free of charge based on the current warranty stipulations.
